New Mexico is my home away from home. I try to photograph new and interesting scenes with every visit. I grew up in Rockford, IL graduating from Rockford East High School. I began a career in printing while attending East High, working with my father at H.C. Johnson Press. My mother worked for Camera Craft at the time of my graduation and my parents gave me my first camera as a graduation gift. I took some photography classes at Rockford College and Burpee Center for the Arts. I've tried to keep up with the technology of the equipment, film, and now the digital age all while continuing my career in Printing.
I've been involved in the reproduction of limited edition fine art prints for both painters and photographers that have inspired me through the years. My first trip to New Mexico was in 1972. I fell in love with the High Desert, Mesas, Red Rocks, and Mountains. I decided to move to Albuquerque in 1978, taking a job at Starline Creative Printing running a press. Starline had their own art gallery on the premises and was instrumental in furthering the careers of many Southwestern artists. I am working in sales for Fujifilm Graphic Systems USA, and I have juggled that career along with moving into the digital age of photography completely. My Nikon film cameras have given way to Canon's digitals. Many of my 35mm slides from the last 30 years are still in perfect condition and I can also make those available digitally with a Nikon film scanner.
MadPhotosInk is the result of my lifelong love of photography and the encouragement of my family, friends, and colleagues to offer my images to all of you.
Enjoy, MAD
